Location: Online (via Zoom)
We will explore tthe tremendous creativity of Italian Renaissance painters, sculptor s, and architects influenced by the historical events of the time. The early 14 th -century work of Cimabue, Giotto, Duccio, and the Lorenzetti Brothers will be followed by the Black Death. Brunelleschi, Masaccio, and Donatello illustrate early Renaissance art in Florence. Ghirlandaio, Verrocchio, and Botticelli continued the advancements of the Renaissance, the latter particularly impacted by the preaching of Savonarola. The High Renaissance will be illustrated by the work of Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, and Andrea del Sarto in Florence under the Medici family, as well as Leonardo in Milan, and Michelangelo and Raphael in Rome, working for the Popes.
Instructor: Martha Chiarchiaro
has brought history to life through the art of the times for more than 30 years. She received her Master’s degree in the History of Art from Williams College and has taught a variety of art history classes at the Worcester Art Museum, Worcester State University, WISE, and other cultural organizations.
