Event Description

Class time: 10:00 am to 11:30 am

Location: Online (via Zoom)

This course is an intersection of previously taught courses (Jazz History and The Lives and Times of the Great Composers). The course will focus on one great (and perhaps unsung) jazz artist each week, studying his/her upbringing, lifestyle, romances, culture, geography, sociopolitical landscape of the time, and of course - artistry as a jazz musician. In addition to biographical background and American historical context, the class will examine and analyze various musical performances or compositions.

Instructor: Paul Buono is a member of the music faculty at WPI, Clark University, and Assumption University where he is the director of the jazz ensemble. Paul holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in jazz performance as well as a law degree. He has toured internationally as a pianist and musical director for various ensembles. Paul performs and records regularly and also teaches classes and private instruction.
