Event Description
October 16, 4:30 pm: WISE at the Museum of Worcester
As the Museum of Worcester notes: “In 1850, over 1,000 people—including Frederick Douglas, Sojourner Truth, and Lucy Stone—gathered at Brinley Hall in Worcester for the first National Women’s Rights Convention. It was a groundbreaking moment that sparked a global movement.” In October, the Museum will bring that moment back to life with a series of events, including a day-long conference, an historical fashion show and a dramatic re-enactment.
WISE has the unique opprtunity to introduce the whole celebration with a special panel discussion at the Museum’s auditorium. Historians Lisa Connelly Cook and Melinda Marchand will discuss crucial aspects of the Convention. WISE instructor and Professor of Journalism Rosemary McCarthy will introduce and moderate the panel and lead the audience in a question and answer session.
