Each class will present a new 20th century musician including Keith Jarrett, Stevie Wonder, Duke Ellington, Branford Marsalis, and Louis Armstrong with a focus on jazz, although other musicians may be included. The classes will offer a historical overview, including a biography and human-interest angle, as well as the cultural backdrop of the times. There will be a focus on active listening - i.e., listening to music in order to identify specific traits, sections, and elements of music.
