Influenced by Aristotle, John Locke coined the term “pursuit of happiness.” Thomas Jefferson never explained his use of this phrase as stated in the Declaration of Independence. Social sciences, however, have plenty to say about it. Positive Psychology makes a large contribution to this area of inquiry. This specific discipline within the field of psychology, concerns itself with the use of psychological theory, research, and clinical techniques toward understanding resilient, adaptive, creative, positive, and emotionally fulfilling aspects of human behavior. This class will explore what the science of happiness has to say about your own pursuit of a life worth living.
